State Assessments

State Assessments

Students participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) each year. The results will identify where your child is doing well or needs more help, so you can better support their learning at home, and teachers can better support their learning in the classroom. When combined with other measures such as grades, class work, and teacher observations, these tests give families and teachers a more complete picture of their child’s learning. The results of your child’s state assessments are available at the beginning of the following school year through the Parent Portal in Aeries.

Students will take the following state assessments depending on their grade level:

• Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics for grades three through eight and grade eleven.

• California Science Test (CAST) in grades five and eight and once in high school (typically in eleventh grade for the Oro Grande School District)

Parents' Right to Exempt from State Testing

A parent or guardian may annually submit to the school a written request to excuse his or her child from any part of the state tests listed above pursuant to Education Code section 60615. The district’s CAASPP assessment window is from the beginning of April through May. If you choose to have your child not participate, please notify your child’s school site prior to the start of the testing window. Any test(s) completed before the request is submitted will be scored, and the results will be included in the pupil’s records.
