Postponement of Events and Activities 3/12

Dear Mojave River Academy Families,

As we continue to closely monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in our area and receive guidance from state, county and public health officials, we are preparing for a variety of scenarios and want to keep you informed in the discussions we are having.

Following the recent guidance issued by Governor Newsom and the California Department of Health on how to help limit the spread of COVID-19, we have decided to postpone and reschedule, when possible, all upcoming non-essential, close-proximity events – including field trips and school activities – until we receive updated guidance out of an abundance of caution, effective immediately. We anticipate this lasting until mid-April, but will provide updates in the coming weeks.

We are taking this action to protect the well-being of our students, families, staff and community. We feel it is best to exercise caution as we navigate through this time of heightened anxiety and uncertainty.

We will continue to operate school on its regular schedule and will continue to do so under the guidance from public health. Should things change, we will immediately provide an update to all families.

Our decision to promote social distancing follows guidance provided by the California Department of Education, California Department of Public Health and local public health experts. Social distancing guidelines indicate that a space of at least 6 feet between individuals helps to stop or slow down the spread of viruses, including COVID-19. We will keep families apprised of any rescheduling of school events and activities based on circumstances as they develop.

The Oro Grande School District has remained in constant contact with local education and health officials about the most current developments. We are following guidance provided by the California Department of Education and the California Department of Public Health, and we will continue to share that information immediately with staff, families and students via email, text, phone, websites and social media.

There are simple everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses. These include washing hands with soap and water, coughing into sleeve/tissue, staying home if sick, and getting a flu shot. If your child is exhibiting signs of illness such as fever, cough, sore throat or difficulty breathing, please contact your healthcare provider.
